Wassup with three?

Three,3, Treble, Tri

What's that all about you ask? Let me begin my answer by posing the question that I recently asked myself.

What's an almost 40 year old bloke doing wearing lycra in public!!! Now there's something I thought I would NEVER do; or at least admit too.

TRIathlon - swim, cycle, run

Various distances:
  • Short Course - 300m Swim, 9km Cycle, 3km Run
  • Sprint - 750m S, 20km C, 5km R
  • Olympic - 1500m S, 40km C, 10km R
  • Half Iron - 1900m S, 90km C, 21km R
  • Ironman - 3.8km S, 180km C, 42.2km R
Very wisely I have chosen to master the Short course :) Maybe next year if the phase lasts, I will progress to the next level.

Swim

Cycle

Run

36 mins 26 seconds later I stumbled back to the beach and collapsed into the water. I'm sure there was some steam! Thanks to Jackie and the kids for supporting me and my Mum and Dad for coming out also (and taking the pics). Dad's massive Watermelon (chilled) was the perfect accompaniment to the sausages on the Barbee.

The Triathlon was organised by the Whangarei Triathlon Club

They are very laid back and welcoming. They encourage everyone to have a go at all or part of the events. So far I've done a Splash 'n' Dash at Onerahi Foreshore on Jan 17th and the Triathlon at the NZ Refinery 27th Feb.

I'm looking forward to the Kumara Tri on April 2nd.

And I'm reeeeeeeally looking forward to Jacksta-B's triathlon a week later - April 9th at Pt. Chev in Auckland.

Anyone keen to go for a Swim, Cycle or Run - or all three? Give me or Jacksta a ring (or comment on the blog) and we'll do it. No lycra necessary - save that for race day :)
