Wassup wit the Circus

What comes to mind when you think about the Circus? That is was derived from the Greek word kirkos, meaning circle or ring. Or of poorly treated animals that occasionally get there own back with a classic when circus animals go bad episode.

I think of...clowns and unicycles, a red and white striped big top, lion tamers with a chair and a whip, motorbikes whizzing around in a round cage, teired seating and popcorn.

Obviously before last night I had never been to a circus in all my 37 years. So when my wife suggested it I decided it was high time to see what all the fuss was about.

My wife and I took our kids to the Travelling Weber Bros Circus last night. It was a late night as the circus started at 7:30 pm which is well and truely bedtime for our almost 3 and now 5 year old. But hey the circus is in town!

We started our night of treats with a hearty meal at your local family restaurant, Cobb & Co. I still love turning over the placemats to find an awesome array of puzzles to be filled in with those classic little red pencils. And so begins the age old competition between husband and wife, weilding said pencils as combatants did with weapons of old. But I digress...

Over to riverside we parked the car, donned jackets and made our way to the big top with our almost 3 year old repeating, "I'm so excited, i'm so excited!" Guess what, so was I.

Coughing up $64 we entered the tent to be greeted by, in my opinion, the best side show ever...go on guess. Lined up their heads loll from side to side daring you to pay for the privelege to pop ping pong balls into their mouths. That's right, it's those freaky looking clown heads with their mouths agape luring you to pay $5 for a plastic tiki (at least that's what it was in my day). Sorry kids they don't take eftpos.

We found our seats and waited about 20 mins for the show to start. Now I could go on about each act and the story weaved through the performance but a short blog is a good blog. In a nut shell it was better than I thought it was going to be. Although I didn't enjoy the 'mystical' storyline the performances were complex, skilled and enthusiastic to say the least. It had it all...laughs, excitement, wonder and awe! The kids and their parents loved it...good on ya Weber Bros!
